Petroc Trelawny shares his first name with one of Cornwall’s most celebrated saints, the second with its ‘national anthem’. So, when challenged on his ancestry, he was inspired to rediscover the lands of his boyhood and confirm that he still belonged. Petroc’s slow journey through the past and into the future takes him – and us - into old mine workings, ancient churches, sites where new technology was forged, and places where poets, musicians, architects and film makers have worked to shape Cornwall’s cultural identity. 

He explores the river that marks the Cornish frontier, and holds a finger up to winds of change, exploring the collapse of Methodism, the decline of the Cornish language, and the complex relationship with tourism. Travelling by road, rail and on foot, he conjures vivid images of a loving family full of mysteries and a landscape still redolent of 'Cornish otherness’.

Literary Lunch

Our popular Literary Lunch gives you a chance to meet Petroc Trelawny in advance of the talk - in the relaxed surroundings of the Dining Hall at Cedars House. Petroc will join guests for lunch at 12.30pm before the short walk across to Cedars Hall where the talk will begin at 2pm.

Menu:
Thai Chicken soup, followed by a Sicilian lemon tart and clotted cream.
The soup is accompanied by artisan breads.
