The Iron Lady revisited
A century after the birth of Margaret Thatcher politicians on both sides of the divide are laying claim to her legacy.
And yet, says biographer Iain Dale, Brits under the age of 53 will have sketchy knowledge of her premiership while she was in power.
The LBC broadcaster, and author of previous political biographies, has written his latest book β called succinctly Margaret Thatcher β to introduce a new generation to the Iron Lady, exploding many myths along the way.
He asks if her leadership style was really as dictatorial as people believed. Did she transform Britain’s economy and, if so, how? What was her role in bringing about the end of the Cold War? And did she U-turn or was she, as she famously said, βthe lady not for turning.β
