2020 Festival: Book Group Event Confirmed

14 June 2020

We are delighted to announce that Max Porter will be our author for the Festival’s ever popular Book Group Event, due to take place at 2.30pm on Sunday 18 October.

Lanny by Max Porter - Book CoverMax’s first book Grief is the Thing with Feathers attracted a string of accolades and awards, including Young Writer of the Year. His second, Lanny, is equally mesmerising – a joyously stirred cauldron of words, a delightful mixture of fable, myth and modern life. Lanny is a little boy who lives in an ordinary village not far from London which belongs to the people who live in it, and to those who lived there hundreds of years ago, including Dead Papa Toothwort who has woken from his slumber in the woods and is listening to them all…

Our Book Group Event allows the audience to discuss the work with the author himself. It has always proved to be hugely popular and of course is not exclusively open to Book Groups; all readers are very welcome! Nor do you need to read the book beforehand, but it can help.

As you will realise, we remain determined to put on a Festival in October. If the traditional format proves impossible, we hope to run a ‘virtual’ festival or a hybrid. We will continue to monitor the situation closely and take advice from all the experts and our stakeholders, including the Cedars Hall staff, our loyal supporters and potential audience members. We are keeping plans flexible, following Government guidelines and taking our responsibilities very seriously.
