Former war correspondent and best-selling author Damien Lewis brings to life WWII Special Forces hero Archie Gibson in his new book Behind Enemy Lines.

Gibson miraculously survived a harrowing attack in the desert by an 88mm German gun and went on to spearhead a string of daring missions by the Long Range Desert Group patrol, forerunners of the SAS.

He survived the war and decades later wrote his wartime memoir at the urging of his children. It was never meant to be published but his family decided his story should be told.

Now Lewis has brought the tale vividly to life, working from Gibson’s detailed diaries, sketchbooks and wartime reports.

The acclaimed author of numerous wartime books and films, Lewis appears at the Festival on Monday 19 October  – not Monday 18 October as erroneously published in the brochure.
