Longlisted for a prize
Andrea Wulf is on the longlist for The Baillie Gifford Prize 2026 announced on 3 September for her book The Traveller: The Revolutionary Life of George Forster and His Search for Humanity.
The Baillie Gifford Prize rewards excellence in non-fiction writing, bringing the best in intelligent reflection on the world to new readers.
Judges said of Andrea’s work that it was unquestionably on the longlist because of the strength of her scholarship and the brilliance of her writing. The shortlist will be announced on 1 October and the winner on 4 November.
George Forster was a man out of time, journeying to the far reaches of the known world and challenging the world views of 18th-century Europe with radical ideas about equality and freedom.
The Traveller seeks to restore Forster as one of the great visionaries of his era.
