2019 Festival: Additional tit-bits!
September 29 2019Our 29th Festival will be jam-packed with appetising events – including a mouth-watering discussion between Felicity Cloake and Caroline Waldegrave at 10.30am on Saturday 26 October: One more Croissant for the Road.
Other appetising attractions include our Literary Lunches which take place in the Dining Hall, a short stroll across from Cedars Hall. The speaker joins the audience for lunch (and often an informal chat) and seats are reserved for lunch guests for the talk itself. So you can relax and enjoy the wonderful homemade soup, artisan bread and delicious dessert before making your way to Cedars in time for the talk.
The 2019 Literary Lunches

Please note: in order to assist with catering, ticket sales for the Literary Lunches will close on Sunday 13 October. After 13 October, ‘Talk only’ tickets will be available. So book now – and don’t go hungry!
- Monday 21 October: Keggie Carew in conversation with Mark McCrum – discussing some of the excruciating misadventures that have dogged her over the years, resulting in the hilarious Quicksand Tales
- Tuesday 22 October: Jasper Winn takes us on an illustrated meander along a thousand miles of Britain’s canals, accompanied by the playing and singing of some atmospheric canal songs,
- Wednesday 23 October: Martin Kemp examines da Vinci’s finest masterpieces and explains his lifetime’s passion for the great artist in Living with Leonardo
- Friday 25 October: Peter Hennessy, the leading historian of post-war Britain, whose opinions are always much sought, especially during the current constitutional crisis, will be looking back on the huge changes that swept the world in the 1960s
On weekdays during the Festival, the bar in the Cedars Hall foyer will be serving light refreshments plus coffees, teas and of course a range of cold drinks. During the weekend sandwiches and soup will also be available, offering plenty of choice for everyone in between talks. Finally of course there’s the special 10% discount offered to Festival-goers by some of the city’s most popular restaurants.
