Her book The Lost Voices of Pompeii explores the final day in the prosperous Italian city of Pompeii, destroyed in 79AD by the catastrophic eruption of Mount Vesuvius.

Drawing on the latest archaeological discoveries, Jess brings the ancient streets to life through the eyes of those who lived, worked, loved and met their fate in Pompeii.

Among the seven we meet are Julia Felix, a successful female entrepreneur, Petrinus, a slave grappling with his future after gaining his freedom, and politician Gaius Cuspius Pansa, who boosts his power and prestige by hosting the gladiatorial games at the amphitheatre.

Jess has received numerous awards, is passionate about making ancient history accessible to her more than 260k media followers, and was a consultant for the BBC documentary Pompeii: The New Dig.
